In reply to Mr Blacklock, Ron Bridle thanked him and Calor and went on to say that the team was very proud to accept the 3 awards on behalf of all the residents of Goring. Referring to the assembled crowd in the Arcade, who gathered around the podium for the presentation, Ron said:
“It is all of you and the many unsung heroes in the village who work day in and day out, unpaid and for charitable purposes, that makes Goring the very special, and now award-winning, village that it is. We just filled out the application form. Thank you Goring and well done!”
It was Goring’s 2 judges who visited us on 1 October who presented the case for Goring to all the other judges in the grand final. Goring just missed out on the England title, which went to Newton le Willows in North Yorkshire. However, the national organiser (not a judge), who knew all the villages’ entries well had said that Goring had a very strong case for winning the national title and he was surprised we didn’t.
Calor Village of the Year manager, Holly Sims, commented: “This was a really close competition – all of the regional winners are great communities and our judging team had a very difficult task in selecting an overall winner. Goring on Thames should be extremely proud of its success in the competition as winning a regional title is no mean feat”.
