The Pox On It Trophy is an annual charity event run by the Goring Tennis Club.
The event is in memory of Ray Hurst, a long time member of the club, who spent over 30 years amusing and probably irritating club members in equal measure by his frequent cry of anguish on court, “A Pox on it!” whenever he muffed a shot.
Shortly before he passed away, Ray donated The Pox on It Trophy to the Club in the hope that it would support a special charity event every year in aid of CLIC Sargent – Caring for Children with Cancer.
The event is usually held in June and is an open doubles tournament with an emphasis on Junior/Senior pairings.
